Researcher and writer, my background is in both academic research, and community network development, community consultation, and iNGO leadership. I have extensive experience in using research to inform global advocacy and policy, United Nations (UNAIDS, UNODC) and World Health Organisation processes, making interventions on the floor of the WHO in Geneva, and presenting evidence driven by my research in Parliament. I have coordinated international human rights campaigns and organisations to create real change and impact over numerous media, including online viral videos, peer reviewed academic publications, advocacy toolkits, and across social media. My research has been well cited in academic publications, in the Global Commission on HIV and the Law, in the French Senate during debates on sex work, as well as by sex worker and drug user rights organisations internationally. I have written two books focussing on sex work and drug use legislation, and the rights of sex workers and drug users, published with Routledge, and have published in areas of stigmatisation, healthcare provision and harm reduction for marginalised communities, and human rights. I completed my PhD at the University of Cambridge, for which I conducted fieldwork in Sweden on the outcomes Swedish sex work legislation and drug prohibitionism. I have also undertaken fieldwork in Tanzania, Thailand, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Portugal, and London, with people who use drugs in documenting rights violations, violence, stigma, social exclusion and marginalisation, extrajudicial killing, and execution for drug offences. I work for an organisation that commissions services and research to reduce harms associated with gambling, and was previously the Deputy Director for an international human rights NGO for people who use drugs; I've worked in African Health Development too, and prior to this, worked and researched at Cambridge University.
