With a solid foundation developed at Deloitte, I have continued to hone my skills as a CPA in industry, where I manage the tax function for the Aquilini Group. Industry experience includes real estate (property management and development), liquor, agriculture (vineyards), restaurants, marketable securities, renewable energy, and professional sports/entertainment.My tax expertise is grounded in financial reporting, where I review the financials for hundreds of entities. Having also managed the full-cycle reporting for several divisions I am able to strategically navigate complex financial decisions in a holistic manner. Whether it is routine reporting, executing corporate re-organizations, or making (cross-border) investment decisions, I make sure the numbers are understood within the context of their qualitative considerations.I also harbour a deep commitment to learning. Since my first degree at the University of British Columbia, I’ve earned a post-graduate Diploma in Accounting, my letters as a CPA, a Master of Laws in Taxation, and most recently a Diploma in Web Development (I believe financial automation is fundamental). Having spent the better part of the last decade in the lecture hall, I decided to stick around, albeit from the other side, as a part-time instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. In class, I engage the next generation of finance professionals with a practical hands-on learning experience, combining strong tax-technical, with the current events that underpin the constant change in rules.
