Indicator Development for Surveillance of Urban Emergencies• IDSUE is a 3-year operational research project to develop and test urban specific indicators and thresholds in Kenya. Role as project coordinator is to lead the design and data collection of a quantitative framework to monitor and respond to slow-onset emergencies in urban slums. • Monthly digital data collection in multiple urban slums (over 2,000 households) in Nairobi. Indicators and thresholds for action cover food security, insecurity, and negative coping strategies. Data collection framework has since been replicated in other contexts. • Designed a cash transfer in Nairobi slums in Aug 2014 for 2,000 households, via mobile money (M-PESA). Early-warning humanitarian response was based on data showing stark increases in severe hunger. •Responsible for 2.2 million USD budget over three years. Manage staff of three as well as external partner organizations and consultants. •Technical advisor role (20%) provides overall technical assistance and research support to Kenya country office.

Real-Time Monitoring for the Most Vulnerable Managed seven country research project for developing real-time monitoring capabilities, in UNICEF programme areas, to detect and respond to emerging threats to child well-being.Provide technical support to field offices on data collection and designing inclusive and equitable monitoring systems Contributed to broader department wide policies and practices on monitoring barriers and bottlenecks in service delivery for children Lead several country field visits and consultations in coordination with national governments and civil society partners to improve local real-time monitoring systems. IFMR is part of a network of organizations working on impact evaluation and randomized control trials in India. Responsible for creating and leading the research program on public expenditure and central government development programmes. Leverage research to inform and advise policymakers, focusing on M&E and analyzing adminstrative data to improve service delivery.Provided ongoing research support to Director on policy reports, data analysis and papers.Organized international conference: “From Outlays to Outcomes: Getting Development from Development Expenditure” in Aug 2009, with over 200 attendees from government, academia and civil society.

Provided research assistance for a report submitted to the World Bank on municipal credit. Report also outlined framework for a potential global guarantee facility for municipalities.Assisted with 5 year financial projections for future microfinance institution.Wrote need assessments on Middle Eastern countries for Gates Foundation proposal on sustainable commercial microfinance models. Researched country level data for income distribution and inequality for new microfinance market entrance in Middle East.
