Ward/Unit Bed Capacity: 12 Majors cubicles, 5 resus beds, 10 minors cubicles, 4 paediatric cubicles with separate waiting room. • My responsibilities in A&E vary from which area I am working in, if I am working in triage I am responsible for placing the patient in the appropriate area, I am in charge of the waiting room, and if a person becomes ill it is my responsibility to ensure they get the appropriate treatment. I am responsible for examining patients in triage and ordering limb xrays. I can also give out analgesia via my PGD. • If I am working in the resuscitation room, I have a responsibility to ensure I assess the patient appropriately and alert a doctor when needed. I am a confident person in emergency situations and I am able to effectively assist and help run a cardiac arrest situation. Other duties include: assisting and setting up central line and arterial line insertion, chest drain insertion and other invasive treatments. I am able to confidently nurse a patient who is intubated and needs full 1:1 care right up until they reach ICU. • My responsibilities in Majors: assessing the patient and ensuring they get all the appropriate treatments and investigations, also prioritising my duties.• My responsibilities in Minors: Minors is run by one nurse who is in charge of that area, I am able to manage that area and ensure no body breaches over the 4 hour target. Usually the doctor or nurse will place the patient in the cubicle and the patient will be assessed by a nurse or doctor then they will gain treatment: my duties include: plaster of paris, wound glue, steri strips, suturing, insertion of clips, collar and cuff, trephining, cleaning and dressing wounds, eye irrigation, treating burns, referring onto the appropriate service.
