At Waitrose I interact directly with demanding customers, utilise team and time management skills and have to work flexibly in a team or independently. I am reliable, energetic and a good communicator with strong interpersonal and IT skills and am sociable with a good sense of humour, attributes which will assist me to face the challenges of teaching.Waitrose – October 2008 – September 2010Worked part time as a sales assistant at the Waitrose Sandbach branch. My role in a busy supermarket incorporated a range of duties including working on the tills - showing I am trusted with money, ensuring shelves were fully stocked and supporting customers in finding the products they required. Direct contact with customers highlighted the importance of customer care in the retail sector and enabled me to develop skills which are transferrable to other customer facing businesses while my range of duties emphasised the need to both take individual initiative while working within a team based environment. Waitrose White City London – September 2011 – April 2013Worked part time as a sales assistant at the Waitrose Westfield White City branch in London. Taking all the skills I learnt at the Sandbach branch and placing them in a whole new environment compared to the Sandbach branch I previously worked in as the Westfield’s branch is substantially larger and being the 10th best supermarket in the country. Waitrose Poynton – May 2013 – Present Following from graduating University in London, I was transferred to a Waitrose Branch closer to home and I am currently working at Waitrose Poynton, working across all sections within the branch and given the responsibility to train new partners.

At Stanley HS, a diverse school in generally affluent Southport but where 1 in 4 people live in the 20th most deprived area in England, I worked with all ages and all abilities. I assisted in year 7 to 11 drama classes, worked with year 10 and 11 students on their GCSE performances while encouraging shy KS3 students to be enthusiastic and confident in performing their devised pieces helping bring their flair to the fore. I supported the new after school drama club in developing their first school production in 10 years being responsible for directing several scenes and focusing on strengthening the relationship between 2 of the main characters.One student had difficulty learning lines and was reliant on his script when all other characters were off book. He was severely dyslexic but by printing his script on coloured paper and providing personal support I saw a dramatic improvement in his confidence and line learning. This enriching experience showed the value of identifying and supporting individual needs in order for children to succeed. Working with KS3 and KS4 classes gave me a clear insight into secondary teaching particularly the commitment required but I am ready for the challenge as I thoroughly enjoyed hearing their ideas while influencing them through my own views and encouragement.
