From 1984-2009 I was with Arbitron, the radio ratings research supplier in the US, where I co-wrote the business plan to introduce electronic audience measurement in the 50 largest radio markets and was the senior executive responsible for it's implementation.     Media organizations, advertising agencies and advertisers have long been concerned with the relatively small panel sizes that have traditionally been used for media and consumer panels. The unique MRL audio-matching meters (available as both a downloaded smartphone app or 'fixed' version preloaded onto a smartphone or tablet) offers an inexpensive alternative to purpose-built meter technologies. The downloaded app in particular offers the potential for large panel sizes at affordable costs since it utilizes the participants existing smartphones. Both versions also collect compliance metrics for in-tab determination and panel management.Through our acquisition of Mediaguide, Inc., MRL operates its own network of audio reference capture sites, allowing us to avoid relying on costly third-party monitoring companies to provide the required reference audio.
