Research: Comparing Explainable AI Strategies For Machine Learning ModelsEmployer: University of Louisville / NSF REU Program• Worked on a research team to compare results of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) strategies from Machine Learning (ML) models• Researched information about ML models, XAI strategies, and why explainability is important in ML• Used sklearn in Python to train and utilize various tree-based ML models • Used Python to generate explanations of results of ML models using various strategies such as LIME and TreeInterpreter• Created code to compare results of XAI strategies using the Kendall tau Coefficient • Made conclusions about XAI strategies from results of comparison and research• Communicated with professor and other students about the project and worked independently• Presented research poster to other faculty and students from REU program

Internship: Data Cleaning For Know Rivalry Survey• Worked on a team in order to clean data for Know Rivalry, a website that surveys users about the rivalries of their favorite sports teams across multiple leagues (https://knowrivalry.com/)• Used Python libraries such as Pandas and OpenPyxl to clean Excel Spreadsheets with hundreds of lines and organize them for later usage• Communicated and collaborated with a team of 8 members weekly about the project and collaborated with fellow members of the team• Used Python libraries to import data from outside sources such as Wikipedia• Used Neo4j to provide a visual database for KnowRivalry data • Lead as Senior Member for the project and mentored newer members to the team

Research: Investigating Genes to Find Link to Cancer Cell Development• Worked on research team to investigate roles of two genes in yeast whose homologous genes in humans play role in cancer development• Used RNA sequencing to find differentially expressed genes after removal of genes from yeast• Used Positional Gene Enrichment and Gene Ontology to find changes from differentially expressed genes and ran other analyses to find possible connections to cancer development• Read literature to find what parts of the cell are affected by these two genes• Analyzed data using Excel Spreadsheets• Created program using Python to compare lists in order to see which genes showed up across multiple lists• Effectively communicated with the team about life science and computer science topics • Lab experience• Worked independently from home on the project at times

Research: AWS Lambda / Edge Computing / Mobile App Runtime• Worked on research team to test the efficiency of Edge Computing compared to other options• Used Python to create computation program based around the Fibonacci sequence in order to test efficiency• Used AWS Lambda to use Python program in a typical cloud computing platform, used Lambda@Edge to test program in Edge Computing platform, and used Swift and Linux to test program in a mobile app platform • Measured average runtime for each program in order to compare speeds of each option• Communicated with a team of 3 members and professor about the project and worked independently• Presented this project in front of the NKU President and Board with Dr. Wei Hao
