Getting accepted into Auburn University was a very proud moment for me in my life. Auburn University has opened up doors and opportunities for me that I would have never imagined. My freshman year at Auburn, I decided I wanted to be as involved as possible. I applied for many organizations, such as Lobby Board, WEGL FM, Media Club, and the Lee County Flannel Club. Lobby Board is a part of the Auburn University Student Government. The goal of Lobby Board is to advocate for higher education funding, by contacting and developing relationships with state representatives; and influencing students on campus to get more politically involved through holding events such as, Voter Registration Day. This organizations allowed me to develop my communication skills and kept me politically up to date. Today, I'm still involved with WEGL and two other clubs called Media Club, and the Lee County Flannel Club. While at WEGL FM, I've learned how to work radio equipment, such as a sound board, and provide weekly entertainment for my show, Happy Days with Jay. On my show, I develop a playlist of indie/alternative music and discuss ways to stay positive. Now, I am Program Director at WEGL, where I tend to 40 DJs and make sure they have all the tools necessary to create their own show. I am also in charge of the automation schedule, and making sure that daily playlist are put into the system. In Media Club, I am strengthening my skills in film production by working in groups on short film projects. This allows me to practice writing out stories, storyboards, and using editing software, such as Premiere Pro. The Lee County Flannel Club is an improv group, where I attend weekly meetings and practice improvisational entertainment. This club is helping me improve my confidence and is helping me enhance my acting skills. In Fall of 2019, I was accepted in the Disney College Program for Spring of 2020. While working for the Walt Disney Company, I learned a lot about how certain areas of the theme parks are operated, as well as knowledge in retail. Overall, I hope that with the skills I'm developing at Auburn University and from the Disney College Program, I can one day work in a creative environment that has to do with either music or film production. It would be a dream to be able to create works that represent women and Hispanic culture. I believe that with hardwork, I can achieve these goals!
