The eating recovery center emphasizes collaborative work in providing patient treatment toward recovery. It was essential that all members of the team deliver respectful, science-based answers to client/patient questions concerning emerging trends when counseling patients. Eating disorders thrive among patients due to the level of misinformation in emerging diet culture. I was taught to perform medical nutrition therapy that utilized the nutrition care process by including standardized nutrition practices and terminology. Providing standardized care was just the beginning of this learning experience. As I gained understanding of commonly used practices, I began to hone my education and counseling skills to effectively serve this diverse population and illicit behavior change within my patients. Audrey created a safe space for me to learn and challenged me daily to test my knowledge of appropriate medical nutrition therapy. Audrey was also appreciative of the knowledge I had on emerging practices such as HAES and we collaborated on many ways clinical dietetics is shifting to a more weight inclusive environment. Her ability to accept new concepts despite years of clinical practice was admirable. I hope to emulate this characteristic throughout my career to ensure dietetics remains an evolving practice with innovative treatment. Show less
