•Lead and support role for Portland General Electric’s (PGE) nonresidential demand response program, focused on promoting seasonal grid flexibility through optimization of Peak Time Events.•Streamlined and documented program best practices to support cross-portfolio functionality. This included team project input consistency, enhanced quarterly forecast tracking, improved project status visibility, and flexible data reporting. Supported implementation of Energy Trust of Oregon’s Business Lighting programs.

I became a full-time employee of One Green World in order to expand my knowledge of permaculture and horticultural practices that are successful in Oregon. As a full-time graduate student, this nursery became an excellent foundation in balancing my work and life practices. As One Green World is primarily a shipping company (90% of business), I was a contributor towards increasing plant shipping productivity, efficiency, and in-store shopping satisfaction upwards of 25%. Although, the majority of my duties are shipping related, flexibility in my weekly schedule allowed time to study ecological practices of the Pacific Northwest, Portland Urban Forestry, and how to conduct customer to business communications and relations. Everything related to planting times, USDA soil and frost hardiness zones comprehension, and understanding the functions of natives species has become new knowledge that will benefit my further career opportunities.

Blackbird Farm is an incredibly unique outdoor educational experience that specializes in a different assortment of teachings. As a non-profit, the mother company Pathways funds, coordinates, and funnels students of their programs to these various educational locations (Blackbird Farm, & The Ranch located in Colorado). The students who enroll in these experiences travel to either the Farm or the Ranch for a period of 10 days. As an educator at the farm, we focused a lot of our resources on developing programs with the students that divulged into mindfulness, sustainability, urban gardening, forest ecology, farm livestock care, healthy cooking and meal preparation. The students part of Pathways programs are diverse, come from various backgrounds, and typically are full-time workers while simultaneously working towards a GED. Though my time was short here, I further expanded my skills in leadership, communication, and environmental advocacy.

Educating the youth of Southern California was an immensely rewarding and tangible experience. I monitored, taught, and was responsible for the safety of approximately 16 different students daily, and would receive a new group of students every 2 to 3 days over 5 day periods, including occasional weekend school arrivals. Along with my co-workers, as an institution we demonstrated expertise in the teachings of astronomy, forestry, wildlife, aquatic biology, geology, and other science related courses. Additionally, we hosted ropes courses and zip-lining classes to teach leadership, comfort zones, and the art of "trying new things." As a staff member, I also gained an assortment of capabilities from reactive thinking for unique situations, communication with medical staff, the leadership team, as well as teachers, and a high level of patience. My experience here was extraordinary and developmental for my knowledge and personal characteristics.

As a tire technician for Costco Wholesale, my duties involved a wide array of operations. The services provided were tire replacements, repairs, balances, rotations, tire pressure checks, hazardous waste disposal, and other various customer inquiries all within strict time constraints. Our duties as a team were to provide fast paced, positive customer service centered on maintaining the highest level of safety for our customers. All duties were to be performed in under an hour for each vehicle to the best of our capabilities. The skills that I gained at this role were mechanical abilities, effective team communication, customer services, and leadership in working efficiently.

My internship with Harper's Ferry National Park was centered on utilizing the parks resources to gather scientific research for my Capstone project; a necessity in order to graduate. The research that I performed revolved around the dilemma of oak decline, a disease prevalent to the east coast as a result of invasive gypsy moth species. Of the 200 plus oak trees tagged, studied, and recorded via Trimble GPS units, there was no significance found between gypsy moths and oak decline, however there was substantial evidence found amongst other factors studied. My data collected, studied, and functionally displayed was contributed to the park in order to provide statistical information on this oak decline trend for the future of the parks forests.
