St Marks National Wildlife Refuge

I worked on occupancy monitoring for threatened frosted flatwoods salamanders, which involved setting traps, identifying the organisms caught in the traps, and collecting genetic samples. I also helped with monitoring efforts for endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers. Along with that, I assisted in shorebird surveys (Wilson plover and American oystercatcher), waterfowl surveys, wading bird roost surveys, and putting radio collars on northern bobwhite.

I assisted in the management and development of wetland and stream mitigation banks, including mitigation bank construction, annual wetland, stream bank monitoring/reporting, and geospatial data collection, analysis, and presentation.I assisted in wetland delineations and desktop wetland evaluations for potential development sites.

I studied the effects of leaf diversity on aquatic invertebrate abundance and diversity in ponds. I collected data on aquatic invertebrate species and ran data analysis. I used dichotomous keys to ID aquatic invertebrates to species such as beetles, mayflies, snails, isopods, amphipods, chironomids, and various other species. I also helped with other studies which included setting up freshwater mesocosms, water sampling, and doing freshwater chemistry analysis.
