About John May, Pharmd

I am curious and excited about learning. In addition to a strong base in western medicine, I am very interested in advancements in medical philosophies such as functional medicine, longevity, the untapped potential of the microbiome and transformative supplements such as nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide. My consistent push for wellness has led me to experiment with low carb diets, power-lifting, hot yoga and fermenting all manner of foods (but I’ve finally focused on fermented habanero hot sauce). My biggest dilemma is narrowing down my many areas of interest. There are not enough hours in the day. I have worked as an independent and chain retail pharmacist since 2007. Upon receiving my license, I began my career as the pharmacy manager for Rite Aid and then moved to Wal-mart in the same role. In the corporate environment, I liked being responsible for motivating my team and competing well with local pharmacies and my district/regional Wal-Mart colleagues. Now, as an independent staff pharmacist with extensive experience using Pioneer pharmacy software, I get to use great tools and reports to help focus my attention on high value activities. Contact me and I will share some of these practices which improve our bottom line. There is so much to learn and relearn (or uncover) as a retail pharmacist. The great challenge is to remember to think clinically and to avoid robotically working through the day. Setting intention and daily goals every morning before work is the key. Finding work as a small town pharmacist again would be ideal whether at a chain or an independent (with a junior partnership being the prime opportunity). Nothing compares to knowing all of the doctors and their support staff in order to get things done for my patients. Everyday I am grateful for the opportunity to serve. I want to take part in the fight to save community pharmacy from monopolistic competitors, PBMs, draconian government regulation and the looming presence of Amazon. Removing meaningful pharmacist to patient contact devalues the profession of pharmacy and healthcare in general.
