Project Delivery Engineering Manager for Network Rail Infrastructure Projects East Midlands (IPEM)Appointed as the Overarching ‘Designated Project Engineer’ accountable for the engineering delivery of the £1.2bn multi-disciplinary London to Corby Project. This project encompasses capacity improvements through an additional line, longer station platforms and signaling improvements, combined with the efficiency enhancements of electrifying the railway. Key areas of focus in the role have been in deploying BIM, Requirements Management and System Engineering across the five Workstreams (Electrification, Track & Civils, Signalling, Stations and Route Clearance) to enable integration across the project.

Senior Project Engineer within the Midland Mainline Programme focusing on the feasibility studies including bridge clearance, stations improvements and OLE civils. Predominantly leading the optioneering and integration of the structure clearance portfolio into the wider electrification programme including pro-active collaboration with the CP5 Framework contractors to deliver schemes in accordance with the contract requirements and NR standards. Performing both in the discipline specific buildings and civils ‘Project Engineering’ role and the multi-disciplinary ‘Designated Project Engineer’ roles, John also led the engineering feasibility studies for a portfolio ‘Access for All’ station improvements.

John was responsible for the Birmingham and Derby offices of Birse Rail Consultancy heading a team of 30 Civil Engineers and Technicians delivering structural, geotechnical and temporary works designs within the civil and rail environments.

BirminghamJohn acted as Principal Design Engineer in the Birmingham office. John's role was to manage a business stream reporting to the Design Associate. Responsible for managing his team to deliver a portfolio of schemes ranging from refurbishment, strengthening to reconstructions. John was responsible for programming and reviewing budget, reporting directly to the Client and Design Associate for works within his portfolio. John acted as Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) for permanent and temporary works designs schemes delivered by his team. John's team has a turnover in excess £1M in consultancy fees.John is also responsible as a `Delegated Engineer' for the professional development of a number of graduates.

Gained valuable site experience and further progressed to a Site Manager role for the Principal Contractor. Site managed a wide range of railway schemes from Overbridge reconstructions to embankment stabilisation and Temporary Works Co-ordination.

In this role John was responsible for inspection, assessment, feasibility and design for a variety of Overbridges and Underbridges.John also undertook structural site investigations to inspect structures for assessment, feasibility and design.In addition, during this period John was responsible for the design of a 50m span steel footbridge deck and Category II check of a steel arched footbridge.
