I primarily teach Academic English for Non-native Speakers who are preparing to enter college-level classes. My typical course load includes reading and writing, grammar, and note-taking classes. My students are extremely diverse in terms of nationality, language, age, and educational background. This makes my job challenging but also extremely interesting and rewarding. As one of only five full-time ESL faculty members in the district, I also contribute to developing and revising the ESL curriculum. On occasion, I assist with the assessment and placement of new ESL students. I regularly advise students and assist them with enrollment.I also teach Composition I, or ENG 101. I developed my own course materials which revolve around the theme of storytelling because in essence “good” writing is the ability to tell a story that engages the audience and fulfills a purpose. All assignments relate to the theme and build off each other. Many of my Comp. I students are non-native speakers who went through the ESL program, so as with my ESL classes, my students are very diverse. I have served on committees at the department and campus levels including but not limited to the Diversity, Global Studies and International Education, and Campus Wellness committees.
