I am a former Justice on Texas’s First Court of Appeals and current chair of Jackson Walker’s appellate section. I leverage my diverse experience on both sides of the bench to litigate complex appeals. I handle high-stakes commercial appeals. I have particular experience in issues involving statutory and contractual interpretation, constitutional law, energy, administrative law, business disputes, and professional liability. I have a vibrant state appellate practice, including at the Texas Supreme Court and in Texas Courts of Appeals. My federal practice is also active. I represent or recently represented clients in the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the First, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits, and in federal district courts. My appellate practice has been recognized by Chambers, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and US News. And I’m proud to lead the excellent Jackson Walker appellate team, which has been rated top tier across Texas and the country. Beyond my private practice, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to serve Texans in two ways. First, I serve on the Texas Judicial Council, the policy-making body for the State judiciary. I also serve on the State’s Board of Disciplinary Appeals, which hears appeals of certain disciplinary issues, both in panel and en banc settings. As a Justice on Texas’s First Court of Appeals, I handled a broad docket of civil and criminal appeals from Harris County and nine surrounding counties. I authored more than 125 opinions (half signed, half per curiam) spanning questions of civil, criminal, family, and probate law. I actively contributed to 454 cases.I earned my degrees from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. After law school, I clerked for the Honorable Timothy M. Tymkovich, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and Justice Robert J. Cordy of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.Before serving on the bench, I spent years developing a sophisticated appellate and trial practice at nationally renowned litigation firms.I am currently running to return to the First Court of Appeals, and I’m grateful for the outpouring of support.
