As the Executive Director of the Technology Entrepreneur Center (TEC) I run the day-to-day operations of the TEC. I instruct a popular seminar course, Lectures in Engineering Entrepreneurship, and work with faculty and student teams to explore commercializing their innovations. As the leader of Illinois’ NSF I-Corps programs on campus, I direct the campus efforts of both the Illinois I-Corps site and Illinois I-Corps efforts of the Midwest I-Corps Node. The Illinois I-Corps programs consist of 8 lean startup programs a year teaching students and faculty lean startups principles and customer discovery methods. Around 60 teams participate annually.As an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at EnterpriseWorks in Research Park I work closely with faculty and student startups to commercialize their technology. EnterpriseWorks is the award winning incubator in Research Park that houses over 40 university startups at any given time.As a member of the Office of Technology Management Advisory Committee (OTMAC) member I work with committee members to advise the OTM on strategy to ensure the goals of the Office are aligned with UI's mission and that the OTM follows best practices.The Technology Entrepreneur Center provides students and faculty with the skills, resources and experiences necessary to become successful innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders who tackle grand challenges and change the world. Some of our programs include Innovation Living and Learning Community (Innovation LLC) - a residential dormitory experience where students can live and learn innovation and entrepreneurship, the Chicago Engineering Scholars Program, the Cozad New Venture Competition, and the Silicon Valley Student Work Shop.
