I oversee technical compliance and market development of BV’s forest certification services in the Asia Pacific region, by working directly with a team of 15 technical and administrative staff and, indirectly working with over 50 auditors, serving more than 1,200 clients located in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Australia. Schemes include FSC, PEFC, BVDDS for the EU Timber Regulation (timber legality verification) and several other local schemes. Also, I lead a forestry technical team to develop customized solutions for key accounts. I also formed a cross-functional team consisting of experts at BV to develop consulting and market research projects related to green building (LEED) and eco-building materials.

I started working at RA as TREES program coordinator for the Asia-Pacific region based in Indoneisa, where I supported RA headquarters in developing grant projects and building strategic partnerships with local stakeholders to promote sustainable forest certification and responsible timber sourcing practices in countries such as Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. From July 2012, I worked as RACERT’s East Asian regional manager with key responsibilities including developing and implementing strategies for promoting RA’s certification services in forestry and agriculture sectors in China, South Korea and Japan.

My PhD research at the University of Washington was focused on corporate environmental marketing strategies and international trade of forest products. In my dissertation, I modeled the dynamic relationships between company environmental marketing strategies and business performance by using structural equation modeling techniques. I have published over 20 research papers in academic or trade journals. Besides dissertation research, I also taught a statistical course entitled "Probability and Statistics" (QSCI 381) during the last year of my PhD program as teaching assistant. The course provides an introduction to statistical concepts and techniques with application in environmental sciences. Topics include graphical and tabular presentation of data, measure of center tendency and dispersion, introduction to probability, discrete and continuous distributions, sampling distribution, and simple linear regression models. My teaching duties included developing lecture materials, teaching computer labs (using PhStat, Excel, and SPSS), and grading homework and exams.

I worked at the City’s Economic Development Office to develop its first international trade database and business guidelines. During this internship, I also helped organize and deliver monthly international trade seminars by partnering with local banks, businesses and industry associations. This experience greatly improved my database management and statistics analysis skills, and also provided me good understanding of the importance of innovation-based industry and small-medium sized firms to local economy.

The research identified three types of innovation being pursued by the industry: business, process, and product innovations. My thesis was published in Forest Products Journal in 2006, so far it has been cited by more than 10 publications.
