    While at Battelle, I worked primarily in the high-energy laser group, where we designed and developed high energy pulsed laser systems for government and industrial application. Initially, I worked on government programs related to President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). On the commercial side, I worked to develop the first prototype laser system for laser peening (then it was known as laser shock processing) applications. My laser background, and the laser peening technology in particular, became the basis for the company I founded in 1995, LSP Technologies, Inc.
