•Managed a team of challenge builders in the development, construction and testing of virtual challenges in the NICE Challenge Project.•The NICE Challenge Project, also known as the Renewal of Information Assurance Excellence Program, is aimed at creating sets of virtual environments to house challenges based on the tasks outlined in the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Workforce Framework. The project is funded by a California State University, San Bernardino grant from The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).•As Senior Virtual Challenge Architect, I extrapolated the meaning of a challenge from the NICE Workforce Framework and constructed virtual challenges through a VMware vSphere environment that integrated the original challenge from the ground up. I also assisted fellow virtual challenge builders in day to day operations, answering any questions about how to go about developing a scenario in such a way that the original meaning remained intact. My work frequently touched on various scripting concepts utilizing Bash, Python, PowerShell and others. I also worked extensively with automated scripting and monitoring software.
