Through Xylem Management, Jeff worked with companies, cooperatives, industries and farmers throughout Asia/Pacific to develop higher value agricultural products and link these with global market opportunities, thus improving profitability and sustainability for all. He worked across all sectors in the value chain in negotiating and commercialising agricultural opportunities, from Government bodies, NGO’s, companies of all sizes, financial institutions, supply chain members, farmer networks and individual farmers. Xylem often worked through a proven business development model, applicable to all countries from product concept, new product development, building and commissioning factories, securing new markets, export facilitation and business management, to achieve real commercial outcomes.

Duties:• General management of the value added (processed) food program.• Responsible for developing all value added fruit & vegetable business and exports• Planning and developing new agricultural industries throughout Australia to supply export needs• Responsible for International Marketing operations• Planning and developing the new processing facility (ex. Simplot factory) in Manjimup.• General company management as part of the 3 member executive.Achievements:• Successfully negotiated and secured contracts to supply Western Australian sweet corn into the demanding Japanese market. Export of containers commenced March 01.• Successfully secured funding grants for the company from both State and Federal Government programs, to the total value of A$1 031 000.• Initiated and developed many value added food projects for the Japanese market, 3 of which matured to the point of final contract negotiations, having a total annual sales value of A$28 million.

Duties:• Manager of the Centre for New Industries Development Program (level 8), part of AGWEST.• Responsible for linking Western Australian businesses with export opportunities in a wide range of agricultural industries.• Responsible for generating ‘new’ agricultural industries throughout Australia.• General management of all the Centre’s staff and resources ($3 million budget)• Strategic design and development of AGWEST, as a member of the organisation’s executive program management team.Achievements:• Changed the focus of the Centre from ‘soft, feel good’ industry alternatives to a structure of identifying and developing real, commercially viable industries.• Developed and championed the ‘Innovating Australia’ world initiative, which was rolled out across 5 States throughout rural Australia.• Nominated by AGWEST executive to head up the States ‘Food’ strategy.

Duties:• Developing business plans, marketing strategies and feasibility studies for a broad range of rural clients throughout Australia.• Crop loss assessment work, assessing weather damage claims across the Queensland grain, horticulture and cotton growing areas.• Providing farm management and horticultural agronomy advice to farmers.• Establishing and coordinating a network of growers, aimed at large scale horticultural export• Consulting and advising individual network growers to a position of export readiness.• Conducting market research across Asia to identify and select new opportunities for Australian farmers.• Chief investigator of a HRDC funded research project looking at horticultural development for export,Achievements:• Founded in 1995, the food processing company later to trade as Mac Fresh Foods• Founded in 1995/6 the Australian Heartland Group (a network of horticultural growers throughout Eastern Australia, currently numbering 35 growers).• Successfully achieved HRDC and corporate funding to conduct a $250 000 horticultural research project.• Successfully achieved State Government funding to run the Northern and Southern Heartland Group training programs, and help facilitate commercial export business for its members.
