In addition to having more than 20 years experience as a small business owner performing residential real estate appraisals, I have over 20 years of experience in Accounting Management (Controller). The one thing more enjoyable than the freedom of being self employed, is maintaning a steady income. My last job with Altia was incredible. I was able to grow rapidly with a startup company and gain valuable international accounting and international expansion skills, establishing corporate offices in both Europe and Asia. I had a great job with a great boss at a great company. Unfortunately, Altia was not in a position that allowed me to hire additional help to handle the growing demand for my position and Accounting department and I eventually burned out. Fortunately, the appraisal industry was booming at the time and I was able to reduce my hours while earning a very good income in the appraisal industry. Recent changes within the appraisal industry have shifted appraisal work from lenders to Appraisal Management Companies (AMC's). This change has added considerable cost to providing appraisals to lenders and the cost is being taken from Appraisers, in the form of reduced fees, to avoid increasing closing costs for borrowers. The real estate market will come back, it always does. However, it is my opinion that appraisal fees have been irreparably harmed by the AMC's. As a result, those who have marketable skills in other fields are leaving the appraisal industry. I am one of those appraisers who has a great set of very marketable accounting skills and I would enjoy discussing how my skills can benefit your company.
