I led a diverse and talented group of scientists and scientific software engineers to deliver agronomically relevant weather information. Weather is one of the biggest challenges farmers face, and my team developed and delivered models and weather data to help farmers manage weather impacts on their operation

At The Climate Corporation, we aim to help all the world's farmers sustainably increase their productivity with digital toolsI advised on the technical details of weather research conducted on the Weather Science team at the Climate Corporation while leading my own research programs. Responsibilities included uncovering research needs in collaboration with other groups, planning and scoping research on 3-6 month timelines for multiple people, data ingest and analysis, model development (physical and statistical) and testing, and communicating results and milestones to the broader organization.

I planned and executed various research projects as a program lead on Climate Corporation's Weather Science team. Some of the programs I led are:1. Developed statistically post-processed gridded hourly weather data optimized for agronomic models using machine learning2. Evaluated the sensitivity of agronomic models to weather data3. Developed a physical model to post process wind data4. Communicated agricultural weather insights to customers

My research focused on improving numerical weather prediction models through updates to land surface initialization and parameterization. I discovered large near-surface temperature biases in WRF weather model simulations that can be fixed by incorporating soil moisture observations into the model initial conditions, and updating the soil thermal conductivity parameterization. This work became the focus of my dissertation titled "Analysis and prediction of dryland land-surface processes and their influence on the meteorology of the Intermountain West."Outside of conducting my research, some of my additional duties included teaching synoptic meteorology, participating in several field experiments concerning mountain meteorology and lake effect precipitation, mentoring undergraduate research, and supporting outreach programs like utahskiweather.comFour chapters of my dissertation are published in peer-reviewed AMS journals. While in graduate school I managed, organized and coached a competitive high school rowing program in Salt Lake City. I was also in charge of hiring and supervising assistant coaches, providing coaching and safety training, and coordinating with a board of trustees on club budgeting, marketing, recruitment, regatta planning, and vision planning.
