I have worked across the agriculture, transportation, fulfillment, and aerospace industries bringing innovative new weather insights to the market. My background is in atmospheric science, and I enjoy combining my knowledge of atmospheric processes and datasets with different physical, statistical, data science, and machine learning techniques. I have authored multiple patents, and have led the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of multiple weather insight cloud software services. I have also managed and mentored teams of scientists and software developers to help make these services possible.     My research focused on improving numerical weather prediction models through updates to land surface initialization and parameterization. I discovered large near-surface temperature biases in WRF weather model simulations that can be fixed by incorporating soil moisture observations into the model initial conditions, and updating the soil thermal conductivity parameterization. This work became the focus of my dissertation titled "Analysis and prediction of dryland land-surface processes and their influence on the meteorology of the Intermountain West."Outside of conducting my research, some of my additional duties included teaching synoptic meteorology, participating in several field experiments concerning mountain meteorology and lake effect precipitation, mentoring undergraduate research, and supporting outreach programs like utahskiweather.comFour chapters of my dissertation are published in peer-reviewed AMS journals.
