My work life began in Architecture: a profession, art, and science that is very near to the heart of who I am. But, in late 2004, I took the opportunity to learn new skills as an Insurance Adjuster in Florida after the state had been struck, over a few months, by four hurricanes. Since then, my career has run on dual, sometimes merging, tracks.Architecture taught me discipline, design, functionality, and building materials, as well as how to effectively communicate with clients to find their real needs and desires, with team members to produce designs and documents that exceed expectations, and with contractors to build structures under tight budgets and schedules. I have designed and managed projects as large as $300 million and as small as a house addition. I have owned and operated my own business. As an Insurance Adjuster, I have learned about people, policies, estimating, and the damaging affect of natural and man-made causes on buildings. I have handled hundreds of property claims, with many over $1 million on all types of buildings. Companies have seen that I am especially well suited to claims that are larger, more complex, or that have particularly difficult relational communication issues. I have handled hurricane catastrophe claims that included loss due to wind, hail, fire, and flood. I have also handled several injury/liability claims as well. Personal interests have refined and expanded my skills with people and organization as a pastor, church leader, and soccer coach. I am an effective speaker, writer, and leader who understands how to aim those skills in many circumstances. I have often met and worked with people at the best and at the worst times of their lives. I am a lifetime learner who loves people . My varied skills and experiences have made me stronger in each of these professions. It is very likely that one day I will find a position encompassing all of them, such as handling large, complex insurance, compliance, and legal claims.
