In 2009 myself and my high school best friend decided we wanted to start a side business doing computer work for anyone and everyone. We started by doing hardware upgrades, virus removals and OS re-installs and updates and then moved into networking, laptop repair, phone repair and more. We still work on this side dream as much as possible and have a decent flow of customers. We do work for several businesses that we contract with and provide them with all of their small business IT support. In the future we look to grow this business more but for now it remains small while we work on our main careers.

VP Supply is large plumbing, heating, bath, kitchen and renewable energy wholesaler with 17 locations and they are always looking to expand. I am tasked with managing and maintaining all of our 400 plus users as well as all of our IT infrastructure. Since taking over as the head of IT I have embarked on a few very large projects to help better our infrastructure and to develop better backup and disaster recovery strategies. I am also responsible for all IT purchases and maintaining and growing vendor relationships. Having a very small IT department means greater responsibility and the need for time management and organization. Every project I embark on is meant to allow me to better manage and respond to issues. Order, configure and deploy printers Update and maintain our Sage Timberline Accounting softwareUpdate and manage all client-side machines including hardware repairs. As assistant sysadmin for VP Supply my main focus was on the help desk side of things. I was in charge of managing and maintaining over 300 client machines across our 14 locations through out NY and now into Erie PA as well. I was tasked with maintaining current images of all machines, security patches and updates and application updates. I was also in charge of managing some user accounts and email accounts. While working at this position I also became skilled at running Cat 5 and 6 and have started many wiring closet cleanups. I also worked with the sys admin at the time on managing our server environment and working with him to learn more of the day to day responsibilities.

I started at Sears in 2007 and have lead my department in sales and metrics since day 1 of coming on. I enjoy my work here as it allows me to interact with customers and continuously grow my customer service and people skills. I have heard from several instructors at RIT that everyone loves the technical skills of an RIT student but we often lack social skills. I took this to heart and have tried to grow my skills in this area ever since. During my time here, I have been tasked with many things which included training all new associates as well as working with struggling associates to increase their metrics. Overall it is was a great experience and taught me a lot about working as a team, providing excellent customer service as well as training and helping team members succeed.
