Systems Engineer, Software Engineering Lab
CurrentAs the Team Lead, my role straddles the line between technical and managerial. I own responsibility for our onsite datacenter and engineering labs. The scope of responsibility includes Network, Data Storage, Physical and Virtual Server environments, Power and Cooling, Authentication and Security, and Applications. I have been able to transform the Datacenter from the “wild wild west” to a purposefully structured and managed Datacenter. The result has been impactful to the software engineering team, decreasing deployment and build times, increasing uptime, and reducing costs. The impact of these improvements resonated to other departments and my team has recently assumed responsibility for the Solutions Test and Quality labs as well.As the Team lead, my primary responsibilities include:• Working with stakeholders to architect solutions for the engineering labs which meets business needs• Creating budgets and strategies to support the lifecycle of the engineering labs.• Vendor relationship management.• Purchasing and Asset dispositions.• Working with team members to implement solutions and assign tasks to individuals.As a member of the team, my responsibilities include:• SME for NetApp, Cisco, and VMWare technologies• Participate in implementing solutions, regular maintenance, and day to day sysadmin tasks.• Automate repetitive or complicated tasks to reduce deployment times and reduce error.Accomplishments:• Implemented a Private Cloud, Infrastructure as a Service model, resulting in over $1M savings.• Standardized technologies and processes in the Datacenter• Implemented on and off-site data backup strategies utilizing NetApp storage and software.• Setup vSphere Clusters, increasing uptime and hardware efficiencies.• Upgraded power circuits from 120v to 230v and installed metered PDUs to reduce overloads• Isolated Engineering VLANs from Corporate VLANs, reducing outages and increasing security.
