As an Executive Editor at Harvard University Press I sought manuscripts in the physical sciences, engineering, and technology. I was particularly interested in work that brought these subject areas into contact with other domains such as policy, law, and ethics, and with disciplines in the social sciences and humanities such as psychology, history, and philosophy. In the physical sciences, I was interested in those areas most affected by, and affecting, planetary change and related human activity, including atmospheric science, Earth and environmental science, ocean science, hydrology, climate science, and geology. In engineering, key areas of interest included energy, materials, manufacturing, planning, transportation, buildings, water, and communications, with a special emphasis on sustainable engineering. In technology, I was looking for manuscripts addressing robotics and artificial intelligence, computing, nanotechnologies, virtual and augmented reality, human enhancement, and networked, mobile, or embedded technologies. I also pursued work in physics, astronomy, and cosmology. I especially welcomed scholarship addressing fundamental issues with far reaching theoretical or practical implications, and with a distinctive point of view. I worked with authors to develop both scholarly and trade books.
