Develop and direct internal strategy and operations across multiple teams and campaigns, synthesizing varying, sometimes competing objectives and needs into cohesive organizational processes and narratives. As a function of these responsibilities, the Communications Director was a direct report.Serving as lead project manager for the organization’s crisis response to the COVID-19 pandemic, led and continue to oversee critical efforts to transform our outreach model from an in-person field operation spanning three geographic regions to a fully remote, virtual operation conducting public education and advocacy in communities across Texas. As part of this work, implemented large-scale changes to our policies, processes and supporting technology to enable continuity of operations.Solely or largely responsible for major public-facing graphic design work product in the form of digital presentations and print publications, including the organization’s largest annual fundraising event and largest direct mail effort.As part of key duties, regularly manage key stakeholder relationships with global, national and regional coalition partners to co-create advocacy and action strategies that influence environmental policy. Locally, developed and sustained key community outreach and education networks to support our organization’s mission.

Directed field outreach operations across three geographic regions as well as targeted special projects throughout Texas which produced over 200,000 contacts annually for the organization. In this role, simultaneously led our Austin field outreach staff, managing day-to-day operations for up to 30 direct reports. Additionally, Staff Directors in Dallas and Houston reported directly to me, with a further 8-12 Field Managers in those cities reporting indirectly.Designed training materials and implemented training programs for field outreach managers and staff on an organization-wide basis.Co-leading a cross-functional team and working with IT consultants, successfully scoped, developed and implemented a custom-built mobile application specifically designed to optimize field outreach operations by transitioning from an outdated paper-based model to a fully digital system.In collaboration with program leadership, conceived, designed, implemented and supervised an original project to conduct in-person field outreach in all 181 Texas state legislative districts during each 2-year legislative cycle. As a function of these responsibilities, the Project Manager was a direct report.As a subject matter expert (SME), led numerous training sessions and workshops at national conferences for field outreach directors, managers and staff on an annual basis (2009-2019).

Tasked with performing simultaneously the roles of Program Director and Staff Director, successfully executed campaign strategies that led to the passage of landmark state legislation while also directing field outreach operations that resulted in the second-highest annual fundraising total in the history of the organization.Organizing stakeholders such as neighbors, politicians, non-profit organizations, local government bureaucracy and a city-appointed task force, initiated and executed a local campaign in Dallas that ultimately led to the passage of one of the strongest gas drilling ordinances in the country.Working in coalition with national and international allies, co-directed the Texas component of a national campaign that successfully convinced major television manufacturers (including Samsung, which has a large corporate presence in North Texas and Central Texas) to commit to environmentally sound recycling policies.Co-directed legislative strategies and organized diverse stakeholders to pass state legislation relating to comprehensive, manufacturer-based electronics recycling programs in Texas.

Over the course of 4 months, coordinated and executed a multi-state campaign strategy that successfully pressured the Obama Administration to appoint the recommended candidate of stakeholders from the environmental community to the position of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator.Co-directed state legislative campaigns, negotiating with a broad range of stakeholders to secure policy endorsements from officeholders, city and county governments, industry representatives, trade associations and non-profit organizations .Designed internal training programs as well as public-facing educational and advocacy materials for local, state and national campaign outreach operations that touched over 100,000 Texas residents.In order to address a critical resource gap, learned to utilize professional graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop) to produce vital organizational communications in both digital and print formats.

Led up to 45 direct reports in all aspects of field outreach operations. In this role, oversaw recruitment, hiring, training, staff development, day-to-day planning and execution, resource management, conflict resolution, and fundraising targets/deliverables.As a core job function, developed, refined and managed training programs and related training materials for managers and staff to optimize performance of field outreach operations.Developed and refined new data tracking and reporting systems (Microsoft Excel) to improve performance and accountability for management staff.

Mastered basic and advanced community organizing skills, trained and developed newly onboarded personnel through intensive one-on-one learning sessions and shadowing, and assisted in training new management personnel prior to assuming a director-level role in the organization.

As a senior leader in a national network of non-profit organizations, provided training and guidance for Field Outreach Directors in Texas.

Created original graphic designs and communications/outreach plans for a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit targeting Texas in its nationwide efforts to expand ballot access for independent and third-party candidates.

Solely responsible for designing curriculum and delivering classroom learning experiences for up to 20 students, including an original course I conceived, designed and taught as an elective credit during summer session.

Responsible for delivering occasional classroom lectures and designing presentations for up to 250 students as well as leading three weekly discussion sections for up to 25 students per class.

Gained direct classroom experience across a range of subjects, including nearly a full semester as the primary instructor for a 7th grade reading class following the sudden retirement of the assigned teacher.
