I joined Arrowgrass to head a small, centralized European trading team who trade European stocks, futures and options for the entire firm. Although any portfolio manager can trade globally if they wish (or if it is within their mandate), we trade actively for around 15 of the 28 portfolio managers at the firm. An average day would see c200 trades amongst all sectors/regions/asset classes and is far from capacity.The centralization of the desk allows for extremely efficient trading and management of our relationships with the street; not just in terms of immediate news-flow dissemination and commission allocation but corporate access, research, trading calls, stock loan, prime broking, relationships with syndicates, etcAlongside my primary role of managing International trading for the firm, I manage a $40mln European trading book with full discretion over European IPOs and secondaries. My style is far more trading with discipline to accumulate a return rather than taking on high risk single big bets to achieve outsize returns. I seek out interesting set ups using technicals, fundamentals, catalysts and how the street is set up then apply a macro overlay. I prefer to avoid basing investments on valuation alone and am particularly keen to avoid earnings unless there's a low risk way to play. However I stress that my primary role is as a trader for the firm and any position I take will be hedged and liquid enough to collapse immediately with limited slippage.Over the years I have built extremely strong relationships with the Street that increasingly serve to enhance the efficiency of the firm’s European trading, especially in progressively more difficult markets where a trading edge is vital.

I Joined Spinnaker out of University to work on the firm’s long/short European equity hedge fund. AUM when I joined were $25mln, reaching a peak of $120mln. Started in a research/analysis capacity as I learned the ropes of the industry and later as head trader for the firm.I am familiar with the workings of back, middle and front office and the importance of relationships not only with sell-side brokers but with prime brokers, administrators, lawyers, compliance officers, human resources, etcI traded primarily European equities, futures and index/single stock options for the numerous portfolio managers and my own trading book.
