Senior Avionics Systems EngineerHelitrak, Inc. Mar 2012 - Jan 2020Gig Harbor, WashingtonEngineering lead specializing in model-based development from requirements capture and validation to unit test verification, all per DO-178B, ARP-4754A and ARP-4761 to safety-critical design assurance Level-A.Produced control law requirements, models, block libraries, callback scripts, unit tests and flight test data reduction tooling for a 2-axis rotorcraft autopilot to support a supplemental type certificate (STC) program at HeliTrak targeting the Robinson R-22 and R-44 helicopters. Produced requirements for an in-house Air Data Attitude Heading Reference System (ADAHRS) using DOORS. These requirements specified the ADAHRS flight software implementation in C. Developed working ADAHRS unit test verification models using MATLAB/Simulink. These models were used to produce input truth vectors to unit test the ADAHRS flight software implementation. Developed magnetometer calibration procedures and tooling at the device-, assembly-, and air vehicle installation-levels using MATLAB and Simulink. This calibration integrated accelerometer sensor data at the installation level and the World Magnetic Model data at the device/assembly levels.Served on the HeliTrak Change Control Board and on the HeliTrak Pre-flight Safety Board. Participating contributor in numerous FAA/HeliTrak certification meetings, e.g. Program kick-off, Stage of Involvement (SOI), System Review (SR), etc.It was my pleasure to mentor several engineering interns at HeliTrak. Supervised several contract engineers.NOTE: HeliTrak ceased operations 01-09-2020. Now available for new opportunities.

Technical Specialist IiiGulfstream Aerospace Jul 2007 - Mar 2012Savannah, GeorgiaEngineering specialist applying domain expertise in model-based development of primary flight control software systems from requirements capture and validation to verification of flight science prototypes to source control document publication and management of the firmware supplier, all per DO-178B, ARP-4754A and ARP-4761 to safety-critical design assurance Level-A.Developed a new systems engineering infrastructure at Gulfstream to accomplish the verification, validation, and release of model-based control law requirements for the G650 primary flight control system in compliance with ARP-4754. This new infrastructure included a requirements-based Simulink block library, a suite of model publication tools using MATLAB scripts, as well as modeling and inspection standards and process requirements documents using DOORS. Controlled the system configuration using SERENA PVCS. Used these new library, tools and processes to convert developmental Simulink G650 control law models from the Gulfstream Flight Science Directorate into a verified, traceable set of published requirements for use by the flight control equipment supplier, Thales. Served as team lead in this effort. Wrote best practices white papers to inform program managers. Provided certification audit support and briefing material to the DER community. -
Senior EngineerHoneywell Aerospace Feb 2002 - Jul 2007Phoenix, ArizonaDeveloped Fly-by-Wire (FbW) rigging and built-in-test (BIT, IBIT & PBIT) models for the Embraer ERJ-170 per DO-178B, Level-A. Resolved issues related to automated code generation into C++ and compiler processes to produce DLLs for embedded software used on flight control modules (FCMs) and other flight hardware targets. De-bugged and rewrote hand-coded signal I/O between the DLLs and their calling executives. Performed software/hardware-in-the-loop integration, validation, verification testing to include dispositioning multiple condition decision coverage (MCDC) holes found during software system and component (STP/CTP) tests.Developed FbW Autopilot models per Boeing 787 requirements using Simulink and Stateflow for DO-178B, Level-A embedded software implementation. This included development of autopilot mode logic and inner/outer loop flight control law. Translated Boeing’s Simulink block libraries into Honeywell block libraries in compliance with the Honeywell Autocode Manager (HAM) and ARP-4754.Developed Honeywell model-based design standards and auto-coding practices for use with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow. Actively contributed to the Honeywell Model-Based Development Initiative (an internal standards and practices body) as well as MathWorks customer focus groups. This support included mentoring new users in modeling technique and providing technical support to internal tools development groups. -
Contract Engineer -- 777 Hydraulic Servomechanisms GroupThe Boeing Company Jan 2001 - Jan 2002Everett, WashingtonManaged supplier equipment development activities relating to the 777-300ER Fly-by-Wire (FbW) Rudder Power Control Unit (PCU) to include writing the Source Control Document (SCD), reviewing and approving the supplier’s drawing packages. -
Project EngineerEaton Aerospace 1998 - 2001Los Angeles, CaliforniaProvided project engineering support to transfer a product line of hydraulic flight control valves from a closed subsidiary outside Detroit to Los Angeles during its qualification for use on the Boeing V-22 program. Supported Boeing at Long Beach with a C-17 Stabilizer Strut Improvement Study at the systems level by providing failure and kinematic analyses as well as recommended corrective actions.Wrote Qualification by Similarity Report for the BAe Center Landing Gear Hydraulic Fuse Assembly. Created a brake system model for the Fairchild Metroliner program. Provided a stability analysis report for the Sikorsky S-92 Transfer Valve. Provided a MATLAB Simulink dynamic model of the V-22 Solenoid Valve to isolate a pin brinelling problem. Created a dynamic model of the Tomahawk Missile Wing Deployment System involving high-pressure gas blowdown analysis/research to support customer-initiated product improvement efforts which required the development of tools in MATLAB to analyze high pressure gas blowdown systems.Supported the A3xx Flap/Slat System proposal with system analysis/modeling in MATLAB and Simulink to validate a similar ACSL model by colleague, David Hsu.
