As the title of my profile indicates, I consider myself a social scientist, but one with a technical background. I have been a student of sociology on both an undergraduate and graduate level. I plan to get my M.A. in applied sociology in May of 2009. Studying this field has given me a good deal of experience with both theory and research methods. I have studied both qualitative and quantitative methods, but have done more work with quantitative. This experience has taught me technical skills such as dealing with computer programs and statistics, but has also given me an opportunity to refine my writing and communication.When I originally started college, I studied computers. Though I eventually decided against making this my major concentration, I still retain this interest. I have maintained my programming skills, and have used such languages as Java, C++ and VBA. I also have experience using SQL to access information in databases, and have used Microsoft office applications like Excel, Word and PowerPoint extensively.I hope to be able to work in a position that allows me to utilize this diverse background to the fullest possible extent.
