I serve as Washington Head of Office and lead global government affairs and public policy for SecurityScorecard.A Series E privately held high-growth cybersecurity company, I lead public sector engagement and policy communications for the company’s local, state, federal, and global emerging technology portfolios. Serving as head of office, I led Rhino's public policy and external engagement at all levels of government across 50 states, Congress, and the Biden administration. I shaped the company's coalition-building and support how we communicate with communities and key stakeholders in multiple municipalities and jurisdictions. I led the creation and deployment of our fintech/insuretech policy playbooks for our executive and revenue teams. I also spoke on-the-record for the company on key policy issues and trends that impact financial services and markets.

I led VMware's state and local public policy engagement with state legislators, mayors, county supervisors, and governors across 50 states and Canada. I also managed our strategy and outreach with industry associations and political membership organizations, such as the National Governors Association, the Democratic and Republican Governors Associations, the National Conference of State Legislators, and the Democratic and Republican State Legislators. In a time where policymakers want to understand technology issues more, I loved playing the role of translator, facilitator and convener. The best part of the job? Matchmaking our innovation and subject matter experts with cabinet-level principals to strategize on privacy, cybersecurity, workforce development, future of work, mobile revenue and taxation, blockchain and emerging technology, mobile device management, IT and cloud modernization, and social justice issues. Some achievements that were meaningful to support thought leadership and sales enablement: * Obtained an appointment for the Chief Research Officer to the California Blockchain Working Group, further establishing the company as an emerging technology thought leader and partner. * Amid growing concerns about contractor monitoring software, strategized with tech associations and built coalitions to halt intrusive legislation in states during the 2019 legislative sessions.* Crafted privacy legislative language in 9 states and authored the company’s privacy and cloud playbooks. * Successfully defeated anti-LGBTI and anti-inclusionary legislation in 7 states on behalf of the company.* Multiple pieces of bipartisan legislation passed to support IT modernization dollars for state government technology and service delivery.* Helped pass the Georgia Hate Crime Bill.

This role was the most challenging and rewarding role I've had to date. I was charged with implementation of policy at the intersection of politics for the Governor. My portfolio included: emergency services, immigration, border security, drug interdiction, intelligence briefings, cybersecurity and homeland security; economic development and recovery, veterans affairs, tribal affairs, military affairs, and privacy and technology. Emerging technology issues included: AI, 5G, blockchain, connected devices, contractor spyware, govtech modernization, and procurement reform. I also covered food and agriculture; rural issues and pesticide regulation, government operations, arts, the California Conservation Corps, the census, state-federal issues and appropriations.One of the outcomes I'm most proud of was obtaining California Congressional bipartisan support for $4.4 billion in supplemental wildfire funding during a disaster-filled year, even tougher in times of increased polarization between chambers and with opposing parties. I also worked to fix policies to protect 9,700 California National Guard soldiers through the Soldier Incentives and Assistance Center when the Pentagon considered clawing back bonuses because of their own administrative errors.In the technology arena, I worked with our Department of Technology and Office of Emergency Services to Hardened California’s cybersecurity footprint with audits and assessments across 77 departments. I worked to disconnect the State of California from malicious malware. In the veteran space, I'm proud of our work securing a $1 billion veterans housing bond for the 2018 ballot and negotiated public‐private partnerships for veterans’ campuses as California renovates its eight campuses. I also provided guidance to CalVet to stand up a comprehensive transition assistance program, the state's first centralized clearinghouse to educate and connect veterans to resources during their transition to civilian life.

After my role in external affairs, I focused exclusively on policy implementation and assisted in the oversight of the California State Government's Cabinet. One success in this role was in the environmental and agricultural space. I convened advocacy groups, the scientific community and agricultural leaders to agree on the Governor’s Healthy Soils Initiative to improve best farming management practices and technology.

Coming back from the field, I utilized my communications work to crafted donor and business outreach on 5 continents and secured 17 grants totaling $9.5 million. I also went to visit our programs and forged on-the-ground relationships with 37 local domestic partner organizations to maximize capacity. I also built program monitoring and evaluation systems for 6 field offices to best showcase results and impacts, important for donor and partner management.

The year in Afghanistan represented dramatic growth for my career. Running a communications team of 21, I served as a liaison for USAID requests for information and worked with the Ministry of Public Works, District and Provincial Governors, international forces, and the U.S. Military to increase visibility and maximize unified message coordination on the value of road construction in rural communities.I also outreached directly to communities through site visits and develops collaborative mechanisms to Afghan NGOs, other USAID implementing partners and international NGOs, local government and shura representatives, in Kabul and in 14 provinces across the country in Southern and Eastern Afghanistan. For the first time, I was able to facilitate communications and reporting trainings for implementing partners, grantees, NGOs, Community Development Groups/Councils, Kabul-based and regional-based national staff and expatriate staff. I also developed internal and USAID performance monitoring plans, work plans, and communications and external relations strategies to highlight program accomplishments in cooperation with senior staff.Using my methodology background and writing, I coordinated USAID monthly and quarterly reports and analyzed PMP and data figures. I also led storyboard creation for video and photo success stories for USAID and public outreach to Afghan local and regional media. My media work deepened and my team monitored domestic and international press coverage and submitted high-visibility USAID success stories, before and afters, and photo and captions for the Afghanistan Mission website.

Working at NDI afforded me an opportunity to see how Washington does democracy and governance from soup to nuts. As I covered countries in the former Soviet Union, I was able to improve my writing on key quarterly reports, build and track budgets, and complete and capture grant funding from the U.S. Government and foundations. I also was able to provide memos and briefs that were used for reports and testimony in front of Congress. These experiences allowed me to be a well-rounded policy professional.
