My area of research involves the use of transition metal catalysis to develop new methodologies for carbonylative cross-coupling reactions. These include cyclocarbonylation reactions of alpha-chloro amides to give synthetically useful 1,3-dipoles, Munchnones. The amides are prepared in situ from a three component from the palladium-catalyzed carbonylation of aryl halides with imines. I have also developed a general methodology for the in situ formation of acid chlorides via a palladium-catalyzed carbonylation reaction. This represents the first ever reported catalytic synthesis of acid chlorides, offering an alternative platform to traditional Heck carbonylation.

My research focused on the synthesis of titanacyclobutenes via a radical cyclization methodology. These compounds are of interest because they can be further manipulated by transmetallating to boron or phosphorus.
