• Applied computational and biological tools to study mRNA dysregulation in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)• Adapted unsupervised learning techniques based in graph signal processing to analyze transcriptomic differences between SOD1-ALSand wild-type single-cell RNA-seq data using Python• Developed a statistical pipeline using R to investigate changes in NMD target mRNA expression in ALS patients with various genotypes• Utilized cell culture techniques to confirm the presence of NMD deficits in various SOD1-ALS genotypes in mammalian cells• Conducted a phylogenetic analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 genome and related coronaviruses to identify potential structural elements• Characterized chemical probing patterns of induced secondary structures of ALS-associated G4C2 RNA repeats in vitro, and extended results to determine native structures in patient cells• Generated luciferase constructs containing intronic G4C2 repeats, inserted construct into HEK-293 cells, and quantitatively analyzed the effect of the repeats on pre-mRNA splicing using RT-qPCR• Collaborated with lab members to verify their RNA splicing hypotheses through computational methods using Python to analyze RNA-seq data associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)• Analyzed primary scientific literature and conducted preliminary experiments to prepare an award-winning grant proposal that received $4,300 of funding• Created a research poster and PowerPoint presentation to present results to Yale students and faculty at the Yale Undergraduate Research Symposium
