Jeff Shaw is a lighting designer for Arup's lighting design studio, and he recently completed a year as President of the Society of Light & Lighting, part of Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers. Jeff has a strong belief that good lighting is key to people's experience of a space, and is intrinsic to their perception of a city, company, institution or brand.Jeff has nearly 25 years' experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and leading the lighting design for a wide range of building projects including cultural, commercial, retail, sport and residential developments and he has a strong background in transport, particularly rail, projects. His projects have been located in the UK and overseas and include developing the lighting concept for the Beijing National Stadium for the 2008 Olympic Games.Jeff plays an active role in promoting lighting design within the firm, in educating young designers and engineers in lighting and in marketing the business externally. He has lectured architectural students at London Metropolitan University, University of Bath and Berlin Technical University, and has appeared as a lighting expert on the BBC TV show, ‘Mary Queen of Shops’.
