Through my career in commercial controls work over the past twenty years I’ve had opportunities to wear many hats. I started as an engineer learning how to build graphics and then learning the programming behind the graphics and what is ultimately the heart of any controls system. Producing control drawings and working in the field with technicians during startups would lead me to a role as a controls specialist taking contracting projects from beginning to end. I was responsible for writing subcontracts, coordinating equipment startup and project timelines with our customer, generating control drawings, writing RFIs, programming, field startup, checkout, commissioning and project close out. I ordered and tracked controls material, forecasted costs monthly for each project until transferred to warranty, generated pricing for change orders and generated billing.I still enjoy working in the controls industry learning any chance I get and hopefully passing some of my knowledge on.
