Teacher and administrator at Pinnacle Classical Academy, a Charlotte-area charter school (K-12, 1,165 students) that ranks among the top 6% of schools in the nation (US News & World Report, 2023). Teach Rhetoric, Latin, and Ethics, Economy, & Entrepreneurship, a dual-enrollment University of Arizona course. Have also taught Latin and Logic.

Full-time teacher from 2003 to 2019. Regularly taught Latin II, Latin III, and Latin IV; also taught Latin I, AP Latin, Classical Greek, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and the Great Books Seminar. Served concurrently as the school's academic dean from 2006 until 2018.

Exercised oversight over curriculum (grades 6-12) at one of the the country's leading schools (2018 US News & World Report national ranking: 126; state ranking: 5). Graduating seniors were offered a combined $35.5 million in merit scholarships between 2012 and 2018. Number of Advanced Placement course offerings increased from two to 17. Organized and hosted presentations by college admissions officers from 17 states. Conducted college advising meetings with students and parents. Recruited teachers from colleges around the nation. Evaluated teachers and compiled data for administrative and board reports. Drafted press releases and organized weekly student assemblies. Organized and hosted 19 symposia; speakers included college faculty, state and local lawmakers, a university chancellor, a former White House director of economic policy, and the school's own distinguished faculty. Regular speaker at student, faculty, and parent events as well as at state and national conferences.

The academic committee (renamed the academic division in 2014) championed the Core Knowledge Sequence and E. D. Hirsch's educational vision throughout the TeamCFA charter school network. In addition, committee members analyzed testing data, assisted incipient charter schools with their applications, helped schools find prospective employees, developed curricular materials and plans for model schools, and fostered collaboration with other charter school networks and within the broader school choice movement.

Oversaw all aspects of editorial process, from manuscript selection to final publication; brought six to eight books to publication each year. Contributed to increase of annual sales from 35,000 to 50,000 books by expanding distribution of review copies and online sale venues. Supervised two part-time employees. Standardized author contracts. Created advisory council. Also responsible for development research, grant proposals, and direct mail appeals of affiliated nonprofit corporation.

Brought on to research prospects and write grants for $13.5-million capital campaign. Successful research and establishment of prospect management system helped lead to increase of capital campaign goal to $18.2 million and the completion of the campaign one year ahead of schedule. Wrote initial draft of capital campaign case statement. Drafted restricted scholarship agreements and reported to donors on use of scholarship funds. Also taught Latin as Lecturer of Classical and Modern Foreign Languages (1995-96).

Hired to research foundation prospects systematically and draft foundation proposals. Initiated prospect research and management at the college. Drafted and edited correspondence from president, vice president, and chairman of board of governors to major donors. Edited direct mail, college newsletters and other publications, and capital campaign case statement. Helped design and edit advertisements. Oversaw the writing of student thank-you letters to all $1,000+ individual and foundation donors. Assumed role of college archivist in addition to other responsibilities. Co-led freshman seminar in ancient Greek literature (1992-94).
