CIS Hangzhou offers students the opportunity to live and learn within the local community through an inquiry-based, whole-being, immersive curriculum and boarding life. As part of the Disciplines within this intensive year-long journey, I taught a blended MYP and project-based English Language and Literature curriculum to level 10 students. Although non-residential, my role within Hangzhou CIS included other various responsibilities outside of classroom academics.

While with BASIS Hangzhou, I taught a variety of English classes including Pre-AP Literature, Pre-AP language, AP Language and Composition and AP Seminar. In addition to the certification and requirements of being an AP teacher, having been part of opening this new school, my strengths over the course of this particular position have included an extra sensitivity and focus on flexibility and creativity, a high level of organization and communication, curriculum development, and growth within the country of China – for my students as well as myself as an instructor.

During my time at SRHS, I taught English for grades 9-11. Over the later portion of the position, I focused on freshman and freshman honors classes. As the school moved towards a flipped classroom, I began to integrate google classroom and other online resources for myself and my students. Using Common Core, essential questions and inquiry were accessed through supplemental material as well as primary texts. Frequent PLC meetings and year-long data collection and analysis made my time at SRHS very informative and helped me gain a more focused assessment of learning.

TAS opened the same year that I began working there. As its only Language Arts teacher, I designed the curriculum and taught all levels of grades 6-9 using California standards and Universal Backwards Design. As the school doubled enrollment in its second year, I strengthened the curriculum that I wrote the prior year, began outlining curriculum for tenth and eleventh grade, and focused on the responsibilities of department head.

Managed the front desk regarding client and employer needs. Participated in PRevents and also helped support and contribute to the company website.

While at GNGHS, I taught freshman and sophomore English with a focus on recreating the freshman curriculum with a fellow ninth-grade teacher, inclusive of diverse learning-based activities and standards-based instruction. We used an integration of arts, interdisciplinary work with the history department, technology with 1:1 laptops, and various uses of media. A strong rooting in grammar, writing skills, organization, and habits of mind (behavior) were also practiced.

Taught at the secondary and primary level for English Language Learners. Created and adapted curriculum while furthering personal education and interest in the field. Worked with current history, science, math and English curriculum.

Worked year-round as a full-time English Language teacher at a public middle school in South Korea. Created, adapted, and taught the English language to an extensive student body in a dialouge-intense environment. Having been the first such teacher at the school, I created a community of support, resources, and standards for the programs’ longevity.
