I joined ALOC, a highly respected professional organization, in order to broaden my labour relations skills and knowledge. Within this position, I provide quality support, coaching, and customer service to the over 800 civil lawyers as well as civil Articling Students who work for the Ontario Provincial Government. Responsibilities include:-acting as the primary contact for Member issues. This involves assessing the issues, communicating and/or escalating issues as appropriate with the employer, recommending and/or implementing resolutions, and keeping accurate, up-to-date records. Member issues can concern the application and interpretation of the Collective Agreement, accommodation, leaves, benefits, recruitment, compensation, discipline and performance management-drafting grievances, ensuring adherence to timelines/due dates, attending grievance and arbitration meetings, and updating members during grievances-conducting presentations on the collective agreement to contract Members twice a year. This involves updating materials, setting up the event on Eventbrite, tracking sign ups, and issuing survey completion requests following each session-regularly assisting my colleagues as required with tasks such as front desk reception and helping during network events (consistent with the requirements of a small office environment)-attend external meetings and acting as an advocate for ALOC and its membership-participating on the Retirement Committee by taking care of meeting logistics, minute taking, and following up as appropriate on action items-adding documents such as job postings and information sheets to the ALOC website as well as regularly reviewing the website and updating content as required

In this role, I provided support to the HR Leadership team and other College Executives with labour relations activities and other projects. My responsibilities included: -acting as a resource base for labour relations activities by handling the grievance-arbitration process and providing guidance and recommendations to ensure compliance with both Collective Agreements; -liaising with the Presidents of both Locals, outside legal counsel, and College Employer Council representatives to ensure that mandatory arrangements and responses are submitted by the corresponding strict deadlines; -researching, compiling, and analyzing key information, statistics, and documentation, including the preparation of grievance case overviews; -taking comprehensive notes during Prep and Step meetings and providing them to the grievance leads in a timely manner; -managing the logistics and minute-taking for both Union-College Committees (UCC) and ensuring that actions agreed to are implemented on time; -providing monthly and quarterly grievance-arbitration updates; and -verifying and processing invoices related to union activity. I also regularly participated on recruitment interview panels as required and provided assistance to the hiring managers throughout the recruitment process; answered queries from colleagues, teammates and other internal staff; assisted with the development of processes and procedures in order to incorporate best practices; and completed a variety of other key tasks.
