My role involves leading the Operating Committee, which represents the active student leadership of the Society of Student-Run Free Clinics. • Set the strategic direction of the organization and lead initiatives to more closely connect student-run free clinics across the United States.

Vu, J.; Mazur, Z.; Chen, M. “Demystifying Health in Minoritized Communities Through Direct, Informal Conversations.” Presented at: Society of Student-Run Free Clinics Annual Conference, 2022 Mar 27; Mobile, Alabama.The Chicago Schweitzer Fellowship Program selects 30 graduate students in the Chicagoland area across all disciplines an opportunity to design and implement a community-based project to address a social or health disparity in their community.• My project focused on de-stigmatizing preventative health in minority communities by addressing the health literacy needs in North Chicago and Waukegan. I aimed to build meaningful relationships and trust with community members through collaborative health events with community partners and by providing an informal space to discuss their familiarity and understanding of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and asthma. • Motivate and encourage community members to learn in an inviting way and to promote awareness of longterm complications of chronic diseases.

• Oversee logistics of clinic operations at Rosalind Franklin University's student-run free clinic, the Interprofessional Community Clinic.• Oversee a panel of 14 clinic managers, who are in charge of managing clinic flow. • Coordinate scheduling and maintenance of communication with 10 clinicians and 30 fourth year medical students and second year physician associate students volunteering.• Maintain communication between the Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinic, Rosalind University, the 15 members in the ICI Executive Board, and 110 students volunteering in clinic.• Spearhead clinic reopening per the state’s COVID safety guidelines.• Troubleshoot problems and spearhead improvements related to the clinic.

Decoding the molecular crosstalk between grafted stem cells and the stroke-injured brain. Cell Reports, 42(4), 112353. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.celrep.2023.112353.The Steinberg Lab investigates the pathophysiology and treatment of acute cerebral ischemia, as well as methods to restore neurologic function after stroke. In particular, I studied mechanisms of stroke recovery driven by human neural stem cell (hNSC) therapy. My project involved studying how the crosstalk between hNSCs and the host tissue can improve stroke recovery.Skills acquired/Protocols used:• Molecular Biology: RNA extraction, Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR), gel electrophoresis, gene and viral transductions, immunoprecipitation• Tissue Culture: Human neural stem cell (hNSC) culture, differentiation, and assays• In vitro: Immunostaining / Histological Staining, Moleuclar Cloning• Surgery and animal work: perfusion, cryosectioning, vibrassae-forelimb tests, grip strength test, stereotaxic stem cell transplantation surgeries• Software: ImageJ, Fiji, Confocal Imaging• Animal models used: mice, rats
