Support five of Global Payments' software businesses and their integrations with payment systems. Working with cross-functional teams and acting as general counsel to each of my five businesses. Focus on transactions with customers and vendors, product development and go-to-market strategy, lead privacy efforts at the business unit level, conduct a variety of training and supervise a team of four professionals.

In my current role, I lead a team of three supporting Global Payments' Education Solutions group. We are responsible for contracting, compliance, and client counseling. We focus on software transactions, payment processing agreements, business development and partner agreements, and student privacy in both the K-12 and higher ed spaces.

Business: Member of corporate sales and distribution legal team, with primary focus on transactional work, provide strategic advice, direction, and risk assessment to management and executive teams regarding the sale, acquisition, licensing, and use of telecommunications and other technology services; valued member of sales team, who can be relied on to find a way to “yes” whenever possible, frequently engaged in sales and support processes that are not traditionally legal issues; experience drafting and negotiating agreements, lead counsel in cloud computing and Software as a Service offerings, and provide direction on all legal aspects of transactional, licensing, and customer-facing issues. Wholesale: provide full-service support to wholesale business, including sales agreements, regulatory & trademark issues, disputes, and litigation; experience updating and improving contract process with emphasis on customer-friendly language.Consumer: Responsible for drafting and managing all consumer terms and conditions of sale for all Sprint brands and Sprint-branded apps; restructured consumer terms and conditions for all four brands to be more customer-friendly and designed industry-first format released in 2016; advise on impact of pending and proposed legislation. Non-Profit: Provide primary legal support to the 1Million Project and the 1Million Project Foundation, focused on providing devices and wireless service to high school students without reliable home internet access; serve as elected Director and Secretary of the 1Million Project Foundation Board of Directors; manage outside counsel for both the 1Million Project Foundation and the Sprint Foundation. Regularly collaborate with attorneys in privacy, regulatory, intellectual property, marketing, and procurement groups to provide cohesive, solution-oriented counseling and direction.

Served as in-house counsel for a four-state region of the agency. Focused primarily on employment counseling and litigation matters. Investigated and defended discrimination and retaliation claims at the agency and federal court level. Conducted extensive training for all SSA office managers in the region. Engaged in significant client counseling and creative problem solving, including one case that was covered by the Kansas City media. Ensured regulatory compliance with complex regulations involving agency programs, privacy, and employment practices. Defended the agency in federal court in all stages of a variety of types of litigation, with tight deadlines and a heavy workload (office-wide).

Focused on employment litigation. Experience in investigating and defending state and federal employment discrimination and retaliation claims, including before the EEOC. Significant client counseling on employment and human resources issues. Represented nationally known insurance company on contractual issues with agents. Significant experience with discovery, including organizing and assisting clients with electronic discovery, ensuring clients’ and opposing parties’ discovery obligations were fully met, and handling motions for sanctions. Handled all aspects of cases, including drafting and arguing motions, negotiating settlement agreements, counseled clients, taking and defending witness and party depositions, and preparing cases for trial.

Focused on complex commercial and tort litigation, including settlement fraud, pharmaceutical, and employment cases. Extensive experience handling high-volume document cases and e-discovery, including supervising discovery teams for Fortune 100 clients. Significant experience with discovery, including organizing and assisting clients with electronic discovery, ensuring clients’ and opposing parties’ discovery obligations were fully met, and handling motions for sanctions. Handled all aspects of cases, including drafting and arguing motions, negotiating settlement agreements, counseling clients, taking and defending witness and party depositions, and preparing cases for trial.
