In my current role I review several vital company reports; P & L statements, KPI’s, payroll reports, guest flow reports to ensure coverage with schedules among several others. I review these high-level reports some on a daily basis and others on a weekly or monthly basis, then perform a thorough analysis at the end of each week. I believe in hiring the appropriate people to fill positions to ensure productivity and not to hire a body to fill a position. The culture of the team has an invaluable effect on overall productivity, When hiring team members, I prefer individuals with a proactive attitude. I like to hire individuals who default too, 'how can I make this work,' versus 'this is why I can't do it.' Individuals who have good communication skills and a positive attitude are two key characteristics I seek out. People who have a naturally positive mindset tend to be the best employees. They are loyal and are willing to go the extra mile without being asked or convinced. To check for these particular traits, I will ask various situational and behavioral-based questions to see if the person leans to the negative or the positive. When I ask questions they should be able to answer confidently and without a long period of thought, stumbling over their words. My primary goal to help grow, inspire, motivate and be a positive influence in my team. I love being able to achieve results through training, positive reinforcement and involving them in decision-making, so we are a true team. There are times when, as a leader we need to find or grow the teams motivation. While motivation comes from within an individual there are different tactics we as leaders can use to draw out their motivation. When Teams are adequately trained it gives them confidence to do their job - and that there are clear lines of communication between staff and leadership. Also by delegating duties, delegation motivates workers by instilling in them a sense of trust. "Being a leader is not all about commanding employees and pinpointing their mistakes, it's a mutual relationship. I see employees as fellow team members. Each decision I make involves them. When I get an idea, I ask them for thoughts and ideas, I truly believe that knowledge is in the room and not one person is all knowing. We discuss the plans to see which one is the best. When employees are involved in the decision-making process, it is a win-win for the company. And everyone likes to have fun and some friendly competition! Running different “games” and contests can also have more of an immediate increase in motivation.
