I worked in the laboratories of Drs. David Traver and Karl Willert studying the development of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in the zebrafish and human embryonic stem cell (hESC) systems. I focused specifically on the role of Wnt signaling in HSC specification and emergence in both the zebrafish model of in vivo hematopoiesis, and used my findings to improve efforts to derive HSCs from hESCs.

I was an instructor for BILD 1, a lower-division introductory course covering cell biology (class of 75 students). I employed active learning methods (i>clickers, think-pair-share, and data analysis activities) to increase student learning gains.

I worked in the Kawakami lab, and gained experience with mouse and zebrafish histology preparation. Studied the arthritis-like phenotypes of a conditional knockout mouse line throughout development of mouse knee cartilage, and aided investigation of the regenerative capacity of the zebrafish myocardium.

Worked alongside project scientists in the Stem Cell department to develop new methods and begin a new product design.
