Throughout high school, I mentored elementary students from preschool-2nd grade. This was a great joy for me as I got to build a personal relationship with these kids and work on subjects that were difficult for them. This experience helped me when I tutored a middle school boy in the summer of 2020. He has been diagnosed with dysmorphia, dyslexia, and dysgraphia, so English class was typically harder for him. We worked on grammar, creative writing, handwriting, typing, reading comprehension, and editing skills. During this time, I worked with his mom to create lesson plans to best serve him.For the summer of '21, I lived with a 25-year-old woman with down syndrome through Veridian as Supported Community Living. In this role, I was responsible for her transportation, physical health, healthy eating skills, reminders for medications, and general entertainment/friendship. We enjoyed visiting her friends and family through the summer and our time together took her one step closer to being able to live in the condo independently.For the 2021-2022 school year, I have worked as a stagehand at Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. I have helped load in and load out touring shows, set up for School of Music concerts, and decorate the building according to seasons.I accepted the Service and Justice Peer Minister position at St. Stephen the Witness Catholic Student Center for the 2022-2023 school year. In this role, I was responsible for service outreach, mission projects, and planning charitable events for our community. Though I planned a wide range or service opportunities, my heart was most tied to our efforts for the homeless community in the Cedar Valley.During the summer of 2022, I was a lifeguard at Adel Family Aquatic Center. I was quickly promoted to a head guard that same summer and was given responsibilities to help the daily workings of our facility. I returned the next summer as a lifeguard instructor and a manager of the aquatic center. In this role, I not only supported the daily staff, but was given more responsibilities in regards to caring for the public.In December of 2023, I switched to Marketing and Outreach at St. Stephen's. I now do our social media content creation, interact with other accounts to build community, on campus advertisements, and other campus communications. It has been a joy to use my love for photography to show off the beauty of our Church to the world and to invite others into our community.
