Clinical Practicum IV - 12 week full time clinical with 3 weeks in the inpatient acute care setting and 9 weeks in outpatient orthopedics. Gained experience in evaluation and treatment of more medically complicated patients in both surgical and medical ICU and step down units. During the outpatient portion of the clinical, worked under the supervision of a certified manual therapist (CMT) and with close collaboration to the integrative pain management clinic within the VA facility. Gained new experience with manual interventions including soft tissue techniques and spinal and peripheral joint mobilization. Also gained experience in treating unique and complex patient population with various physical and psychological co-morbidities including combat related pain, TBI, and PTSD. Also had the opportunity to observe the wheel chair seating clinic and surgical total knee arthroplasty.

Clinical Practicum III - 10 week full time clinical in an outpatient orthopedics setting. Worked with a variety of patients with ages ranging from 11 to 90. Worked under the supervision of a clinical instructor who is certified in the McKenzie method of Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert MDT) and was exposed to this method of assessment and treatment. Gained more experience in assessment and treatment of the spine, as well as some exposure to assessment and treatment of neurological conditions including CVA, Parkinson's disease, vestibular dysfunction, cerebral palsy, cerebellar dysfunction and spinal cord injury.

Clinical Practicum II - 6 week full time clinical experience in hospital setting which included both outpatient orthopedics and inpatient acute care. Worked with a variety of patients with ages ranging from 14 to 97, with larger portion of patients in the geriatric population. Assisted clinical instructor with evaluation and treatment of patients with a variety of neuromusculoskeletal conditions similar to those described in section about Clinical Practicum I. Gained new experience in evaluation and treatment of patients in inpatient acute care at the hospital, wound care, as well as exposure to physical therapy management in a hospital setting.

Clinical Practicum I - 6 week full time clinical experience in a primarily outpatient orthopedic setting. Worked with a variety of patients with ages ranging from 13 to 94. Assisted with the evaluation and treatment of patients with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions including post surgical rotator cuff, ACL, & meniscal repairs, adhesive capsulitis, whiplash injury, tempomandiublar dysfunction, etc. Also gained experience in evaluation and treatment of neuromuscular conditions including Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain in jury, balance, & vestibular dysfunction.

Same duties as Run For Your Life and FootRx (below), with additional responsibilities of co-managing the store, training new associates, organizing and coaching the weekly fun run, teambuilding, tracking sales, & presenting at staff meetings.

Assisted physical therapists by escorting patients to their treatment area and leading patients through their prescribed exercise programs, including strengthening, balance, coordination, and proper stretching activities. Set up therapeutic equipment and modalities for patients. Equipment used includes Therabands, free weights, weight machines, stability balls, medicine balls, balance boards, Bosu ball, stretching straps, ankle weights, tongue depressors, stabilizer cuffs, kettle bells, and parallel bars. Modalities setup includes application of hot and cold packs, ultrasound, and IFC machine. Additional duties involved some documentation of exercises, maintaining safe and clean treatment areas, restocking supplies, and laundry.

Fit customers with specialty running shoes using video and gait analysis, built customer relations and created a positive friendly environment for customers, provided information about specialty running shoes, apparel, and nutrition, promoted local races and events, worked with product representatives and sports doctors to learn more about inventory and sports injuries, ordered and received inventory, helped educate customers about over- the-counter orthotics.
