As part of the Blue Hen Leadership Program, a 2014 recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Program Award presented by the Association of Leadership Educators, I have successfully completed three of the four tiers offered. In Tier 1 The Emerging Leader, I focused on strengthening my personal leadership skills via workshops, guest speakers, and round tables. The foundation of my leadership abilities have been based on the five practices of exemplary leadership that are the core of the Leadership Challenge Model: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. The knowledge gained in this tier allowed for personal growth and has been utilized in subsequent tiers as well as participation in other events and organizations.Tier 2, the Engaged Leader, focused on the Social Change Model. During this tier I worked with four peers and partnered with the head of a campus health program to increase awareness of health resources. We successfully presented ideas about increasing awareness to the coordinator of the Freshmen orientation classes and were able to implement our ideas in their classes. Tier 3 focuses on community leadership and engaged citizenship as BHLP Community Fellows. This tier involved a semester long course on nonprofits as well as completion of a community project which is detailed in the Volunteer portion of my page.Currently a member of BHLP's Tier 4, the Established Leader, I am serving as an advisor for a Tier 2 group. The group is creating documentary on injustices in the juvenile criminal justice system and will create a project proposal to address these injustices.
