I am a hardworking and highly motivated Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager who is passionate in supporting engineering industries to support talent and diversity and promote their responsibility in enabling an inclusive workforce. Working with The Royal Society and National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS) has provided experiences in working in innovation and academic research centres of excellence with strong links to government and industry. Collaborating with new people across these organisations is one of my strengths and I gain a lot of energy and enthusiasm whilst working with other motivated individuals. A little more about me:I educate and enable engineers to pivot their careers with clarity. I made the decision to pivot from frontline engineering on an oil rig to working full time in the diversity and inclusion space. I loved my job and my decision to change was due to lack of opportunities which aligned with what I wanted my future to look like, not the role itself. In reality this was a messy process of questioning my value in non-technical landscapes and applying for entry level roles which wouldn't have challenged me.We are told engineers are vital for the future and their solutions will deliver global change. At university we are taught thermodynamics, design economics and ethics however we spent little to no time on how our skills as engineers can be utilised in other sectors. Currently great engineers often become project and people managers with potential for a few to become leaders in technical departments. For many this may not align with their ambitions to use all of their skills in the workplace. If you see yourself in any of my words please reach out. I love chatting to others who are thinking about navigating their careers in a new direction or who are interested in finding out more.If you are looking for a speaker for an event please contact me on - jennifer@engineeringinclusion.co.uk
