RAIL Lab:- Conducting user studies in VR to identify best practices for designing user-centered control schemes for teleoperating non-anthropomorphic avatars and/or robots.Adaptive Robotic Manipulation Lab:- Created and validated a silicone-based optical strain sensor for real-time soft robot modeling and control (presented at IEEE Sensors 2017)- Demonstrated soft robot pose estimation using soft optical sensors (presented at ICRA 2018)- Fabricated an earthworm-inspired robot with bio-inspired and artificial gaits, in collaboration with the CRAB Lab at the Georgia Tech School of Physics (presented at RoboSoft 2018)ARMS Fellowship Program (Georgia Tech/Emory University):- Member of Georgia Tech's first Accessibility, Rehabilitation, and Movement Science cohort (ARMS): An NSF-funded interdisciplinary traineeship program in human-centered robotics- Summer 2017 clinical immersion course: interviewed and shadowed doctors, therapists, and surgeons at Emory University Hospital and the Emory Brain Health CenterTeaching experience:- TA for Fundamentals of Mechatronics (Fall 2018 - Spring 2020): led labs that guided students through principles of circuit/mechanical design and embedded systems programming. Advised and debugged students' final projects.- TA/Head TA for Undergraduate Instructional Labs (2021-2023): repaired and rebuilt equipment to support undergraduate learning labs. Fabrication and repair techniques used included laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC milling, waterjet cutting, PCB layout, and surface-mount soldering.Outreach:- Woodruff Strong GRA (Fall 2023): Finalized content for the grad student Conflict Resolution Navigator Tool created by the ME Mental Health Committee in partnership with the Vice Provost's office.- Hosted the soft robotics booth for K-12 students at the Fernbank Science Center's Robotics Day (2017-18)- Presented to film-makers at Atlanta's Multicultural Sci-Fi Film Festival (2018-19): "Futuristic Robots, Realistic Plot Hooks"

- Managed a COVID-related research pivot with the support of remote mentors: invented a research project, secured buy-in from multiple teams, and carried it through to paper submission- Consolidated literature from soft robotics, neuroscience, biology and mechanical engineeringinto a perspectives paper on topics relevant to the AR/VR research group ("Towards Handling the Complexities of Non-Anthropomorphic Hands," presented at CHI-LBW 2022)

Validated and characterized a low-power serial communication link between chips on a die to enable it to be redesigned to meet production-quality standards.

- Designed and coded VHDL in the Load/Store Unit of the IBM Power9’s microprocessor team. Responsible for a macro that acted as a local issue queue at the boundary between the Load/Store and Instruction Sequencing Units, a novel piece of logic for the P9 microarchitecture. - Communicated with core architects, team leads, and fellow designers (in both the LSU and ISU) to ensure that architectural specifications were met, while also handling area, timing, and power constraints.- Coordinated and organized events to facilitate on-boarding for new university hires.- Primary submitter on three patent applications.

Handled repairs for a Stewart table and aided in graduate student projects. Work included: - identifying and ordering needed circuit components - building, debugging and simplifying data-collecting circuits and code - record-keeping and organizational skills.

Set up and monitored sound systems, scoreboards, and audiovisual equipment for on- and off-campus events; re-soldered broken cables.

- Triaged and repaired medical equipment in an environment with significant supply and budgetary constraints.- Overcame the mistrust of hospital administrators to gain access to equipment needing repair. Learned team-building strategies to accommodate the diversity of our lab group.- Took classes in biomedical device function and field diagnosis, as well as elementary Swahili.- Documented repairs made and future maintenance procedures needed for hospital staff and future EWH students.
