I help animal care and control professionals implement best practices and standards of care at private and public sector animal care and control facilities especially during critical transitional phases. Specifically, I provide: - Coaching and mentoring to animal welfare executives on best practices and standards of care;- Promoting model efficiencies and staff productivity balanced with optimal animal care and husbandry;- Conducting operational, management audits and gap analysis consults to identify needed areas for development with detailed written reports and recommendations; - Develop and present operational, management and leadership workshops in alignment with adult learning theory and dialog learning. Revitalize and direct operations of open admission animal shelter with animal control contracts. Intake ~8,000 domestic animals (~12,000 with wildlife) with total budget of $3.3 million. Responsible for fiscal accountability, planning and development. Responsible for six direct reports with up to 24 indirect reports (not including 500 active volunteers and County workforce members) spanning seven departments: client services (including intake, return to owner, adoption and off-site adoption venues); animal care (including behavior, evaluation and enrichment); veterinary services (including foster and transfer); building maintenance (including two off-site buildings – administration and emergency housing) and Internet technical support. Chair of safety committee. Highlights of tenure include:• Led and facilitated team to create a formal rounds process for animals that were more challenging candidates for adoption, transfer or foster. Process increased the live release rate (LRR) for dogs from 87% in 2011 to 91% in 2013 and for cats from 71% in 2011 to 81% in 2013. • By creating a culture of community acceptance and open mindedness, facilitated a friendly and accepting atmosphere which has contributed to a steady increase of return to owner rates (RTO) for dogs (at 80%) and for cats (at 20%) as of March 2014. • Implemented changes in response to customer challenges and experienced decrease in post adoption and customer service complaints from the first half of fiscal 2010 from over 38 complaints to 3 within the same time frame in 2013. • Established sound shelter medicine practices to include an aggressive vaccination program utilizing all staff (including animal protection and control officers). Upper respiratory infection (URI) outbreak on canines dropped from approximately 32% during last two quarters of 2010 to less than 1.0% of canine population since July 2011. (URI for canines continues to remain at 0% for the last 12 months).
