In all of my years of working in many different fields, I have learned many things. One of them includes customer service and how to do well in a people-surrounded environment. I have always been good around people due to my enthusiastic and friendly personality. In May 2017, while volunteering at a refugee center in Brussels, Belgium I truly discovered my love and desire for working in an environment that is inclusive and to be surrounded by people. Along with gaining the ability to excel in customer service, from working as a summer student at NATO as an archivist, I learned to be organized with computers, paperwork, filing. These skills have opened the door to more administrative opportunities along with more experience in a military based environment. For 3 years I worked at a retirement home called Berwick on the Lake. Working in the hospitality community was an experience I would recommend any young person to make. As a server in the dining department, I learned about etiquette, respect and gained a lot of patience as working with the elderly is not usually a fast paced environment. Through working at Berwick, I got my Food Safe course, Serving it Right and First Aid certified course. Working at a retirement home was an amazing environment. Having people to not only serve food for, but to be able to develop emotional connections was a gift all by itself. Definitely a career for young adults I would recommend in a heartbeat. I have travelled to over 35 countries, and have seen the world from multiple perspectives. Learning about different cultures, languages and environments; which have been tools for me during my careers and have helped me become a more well-rounded person.Overall, throughout my time working in many different career paths I have enjoyed customer service the most. Currently working as the BDC (Business Development Centre) coordinator at Harris Mazda has been a great mix of my administrative talents from NATO and my customer service talents from my other past employments. I am grateful everyday for all of my experiences and opportunities in the past, and hope to grow more as a person, an employee and a hard worker in my future.
