About Jennifer Torrence

If you were to ask me what a Marketer and a Flight Attendant have in common, I would tell you all the skills involved in being a marketer fall into three categories for Flight Attendants; Crisis Aversion, Project Management, and Reporting. Below I explain how the top 10 skills of a Marketer relate to the skills required to be a Flight Attendant:- Strategy- Adaptability- Collaboration - Critical Thinking- Analytics - Leadership- Innovation- Organization- Budgeting - Technical SkillsOnce during a medical emergency on board the crew and I needed to manage a passenger who was hyperventilating. It took the collaboration from all four of us to decide a strategy on how to continue with service, complete pilot breaks and adapt to any changes which might arise with the passenger or the duration of the flight. Using critical thinking we had to determine how to respond in the event that the hyperventilation escalated to a level in which we would need to make an emergency landing. Similarly, this requires immediate adaptability for any and every situation which may arise.My favorite thing about working for Alaska Airlines is that no matter what position I’m working on the aircraft we’re all leaders. As a result, if for some reason our method of operation could use some adjusting, I have the power to say so. This means I can use innovation to more efficiently complete service allowing more time to create customer connections on board, or offer to the company changes in policy based on my analysis of flight routes and patterns. Likewise, being a flight attendant requires a great deal of organization based on scheduling. Aside from the traditional packing a suitcase sustainable for temperatures below freezing to above 100 Fahrenheit, we must organize our time in accordance with our schedule. For example, whether or not we know our schedule it’s important to keep a personal schedule with goals and flexible plans. Personally, I ensure that 4 times a week I workout at the gym, every week I meal prep to keep my budget in tact and am taking courses to further my marketing education.There is a standard for which all flights ought to operate and anything outside of that standard is required to be reported. This requires a knowledge in technical skills for our company applications as well as software programs to both write these reports and complete our schedules monthly. We must be able to write and respond to emails from supervisors and other managerial roles.
